The subdomain of a space web address can be customized.  When a space is set up for the first time, the subdomain defaults to the name of the space, but this can be changed.  You may also choose to use a custom domain for your space.

Subdomain

  1. Click on the "Manage" button in the upper right corner on the banner for your space
  2. Click on the "Appearance" button
  3. Scroll down to the "Web Address" section
  4. In the Subdomain field, change the text to your preferred subdomain.  It should contain letters, digits and at least one hyphen.
  5. Click "Save"

Custom Domain

Using a custom domain allows your space to appear as if it were on your own web server (e.g. space.your-company.com).

Note: To take advantage of this feature, you will need to have access to your own web server or to the company who is hosting your domain.  Step #1 needs to be completed on your own server or through the provider of your hosted domain and steps 2-7 below are completed within Near-Time.

  1. First, you will need to have your website admin configure your web server by creating a new "CNAME" record pointing to our server at spaces.near-time.net for the fully qualified domain name for the space.  It will take anywhere from 1 hour to 24 hours for the servers to register this change.  To check this, you can type in your chosen domain in the address bar of a browser and click "Enter/Return".  You will know the change has registered if you end up at a Near-Time page.
  2. To complete this configuration, Click on the "Manage" button in the upper right corner on the banner for your space
  3. Click on the "Appearance" button
  4. Scroll down to the "Web Address" section
  5. Click on "custom domain" (in the text to right of subdomain field)
  6. in the Custom Domain field, type in the text of your preferred domain (specify one or more custom domains by separating each hostname with a comma)
  7. Click "Save"
