Customize Sidebar Content

Display/Hide or Enable/Disable Sidebar Content and Features: 

Sidebar content and features can toggle between being displayed/hidden or enabled/disabled.

To view or hide sidebar content, or enable or disable features:

1. Click on the "Manage" button in the upper right corner on the banner for your space
2. Click on the "Appearance" button
3. Scroll down to the "Sidebar" section
4. Check the box next to each Tab to be shown in the sidebar and uncheck the box next to each Tab to be hidden
5. Click "Save" 

About:

Check the box next to "About" to display a custom description or welcome message that will appear at the top of the sidebar area or uncheck the box to not display the text. 

To create your own custom message:

1. Click on the "Manage" button in the upper right corner on the banner for your space
2. Click on the "Appearance" button
3. Scroll down to the "Sidebar" section
4. Click on "Edit" to the right of  "About"
5. Type in text, add images and/or links
6. Click "Save"

Advertisements:

Check the box next to "Advertisements" to display Google AdSense Ads in the sidebar area or uncheck the box to disable this feature.  You will need a Google AdSense (free) account to set this up.  You will be given a block of HTML which will need to copied and pasted, as stated in the instructions below.

1. Click on the "Manage" button in the upper right corner on the banner for your space
2. Click on the "Appearance" button
3. Scroll down to the "Sidebar" section
4. Click on "Edit" to the right of  "Advertisements"
5. Paste in the HTML block that was provided to you by Google AdSense
6. Click "Save"

Bookmarks

Check the box next to "Bookmarks" to display a list of links that will appear in the sidebar area or uncheck the box to disable this feature.  The caption for the bookmarks can be customized.  Bookmarks can be added and deleted.

To edit bookmarks:

1. Click on the "Manage" button in the upper right corner on the banner for your space
2. Click on the "Appearance" button
3. Scroll down to the "Sidebar" section
4. Click on "Edit" to the right of "Bookmarks"

To add or change a caption:

1. Type in text in the "Caption field
2. Click "Save"

To add a bookmark:

1. Click on the "Add Bookmark" button
2. Type in a name for the bookmark
3. Type in the URL of the bookmark
4. Click "Save"

To delete a bookmark:

1. Click on the red circle next to the bookmark to be removed
2. Click "Save" 

Syndication (Feeds)

Check the box next to "Syndication" to display the results of a feed in the sidebar.  Uncheck the box to disable this feature. 

1. Click on the "Manage" button in the upper right corner on the banner for your space
2. Click on the "Appearance" button
3. Scroll down to the "Sidebar" section
4. Click on "Edit" next to "Syndication"
5. Choose the number of feed results to be displayed
6. Paste the full URL of a feed into the blank (ex. http://news.google.com/nwshp?tab=wn&output=rss)
7. Click "Save"  

Pages

Check the box next to "Pages" to display either a list of recently edited pages, the default, or a list of pages with specific tags in the sidebar.  Uncheck the box to not display the list.

To show only a list of pages associated with specific tags, define your choice of tags below:

1. Click on the "Manage" button in the upper right corner on the banner for your space
2. Click on the "Appearance" button
3. Scroll down to the "Sidebar" section
4. Click on "Edit" next to "Pages"
5. Select "Show pages tagged with"
6. Type tags  into the field
7. Click "Save" 

Categories

Check the box next to "Categories" to display a list of categories in the sidebar.  When categories are listed in the sidebar, you can click on an individual category to display content associated with that category.  Uncheck the box to hide the list of categories being used in the space.  Note: hiding the categories in the sidebar does not disable being able to categorize content within a space.

To add a category 

1. Click on the "Manage" button in the upper right corner on the banner for your space
2. Click on the "Appearance" button
3. Scroll down to the "Sidebar" section
4. Click on "Edit" next to "Categories"
5. Click on the "Add Category" button
6. Type in a category name
7. Click "Save"

To delete a category

1. Click on the "Manage" button in the upper right corner on the banner for your space
2. Click on the "Appearance" button
3. Scroll down to the "Sidebar" section
4. Click on "Edit" next to "Categories"
5. Click on the red circle next to the category to be deleted.
6. Click "Save" 

Tags

Check the box next to "Tags" to display a list of tags in the sidebar. When tags are listed in the sidebar, you can click on an individual tag to display content associated with that tag.  Uncheck the box to hide the list of tags being used in the space.  Note: hiding the tags in the sidebar does not disable being able to tag content within a space. By default, popular tags are displayed.  To display predefined tags:

1. Click on the "Manage" button in the upper right corner on the banner for your space
2. Click on the "Appearance" button
3. Scroll down to the "Sidebar" section
4. Click on "Edit" next to "Tags"
5. Select "Predefined Tags"
6. Type tags in the field
7. Click "Save"

Members 

Check the box next to "Members" to display a list of members in the sidebar or uncheck the box to not display the list. Note: hiding the members list in the sidebar will disable the ability to view all members under the Members tab. 

Additionally, you can click on "Edit" to specify which members you'd like to display in the sidebar.  The default is to show all members who have the "Reader" role. 

Ratings

Check the box next to "Ratings" to enable the feature for rating (between 1 and 5) news articles and pages within your space. Enabling Ratings will also show the 5 top rated items as a list in the sidebar.  Uncheck the box to disable the ratings feature.  To enable ratings and show the list in the sidebar:

1. Click on the "Manage" button in the upper right corner on the banner for your space
2. Click on the "Appearance" button
3. Scroll down to the "Sidebar" section
4. Click on "Edit" next to "Ratings"
5. Type to customize the text which appears at each end of the ratings bar on users pages
6. Click "Save"
